Government Runaround In Minnesota!
JNN just got off the phone with Jon Collins of the Hennepin County Sheriffs department. He was not too pleased with my questions about How are your constituents feeling about them paying for their Sheriff providing support for the suppression of the Standing rock community in North Dakota? At the request of the State of North Dakota, and as approved by the State of Minnesota, on Sunday, Minnesota Sheriff’s Deputies from the Hennepin, Anoka, and Washington Counties’ Sheriff’s Offices were deployed to assist in Morton County, North Dakota. These deputies are part of a larger contingent of hundreds of law enforcement officers from around the Country who have responded to the request made through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact, (“EMAC”), a nationally adopted system for sharing personnel and resources via state-to-state aid agreements.
These Minnesota peace officers will assist in maintaining the public’s safety, preserve the peace, and protect the constitutional rights of protesters. These Sheriff’s deputies train and prepare to respond to emergency calls throughout the region, state and nation following any declaration of a state of emergency.
ED-We strongly suspect that Minnesota will be out of pocket for a while on the costs of these actions, don’t you?
Reimbursement for expenses related to providing this service will be made by the State of North Dakota. The EMAC system was ratified by Congress and has been adopted as law in all 50 states — to ensure no sheriff, no deputy, and no state stands alone in the state of an emergency.

“We are residents of Hennepin County, MN and we are alarmed at the deployment of Hennepin County Sherrif’s Department forces to North Dakota to take part in the hyper-militarized and violent repression of peaceful demonstrations in opposition to the Dakota Access pipeline. In our judgment, the demonstrations by water protectors on and near the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation have been overwhelmingly peaceful, prayerful, dignified, and reverent. They have been exercises of the inherent human rights and constitutionally protected rights to freedom of speech and assembly. Morton County law enforcement has responded with riot police, armored vehicles, pepper spray, lethal weapons, illegal surveillance, illegal strip searches, trumped-up charges, racial profiling, and many other forms of physical violence and abuse designed to repress and intimidate. Hennepin County has absolutely no place and no right to support such activity with our tax dollars. We hereby call on all Hennepin County Commissioners and Sheriff Richard Stanek to immediately withdraw all Hennepin County forces from North Dakota.”
So We talked to the MN department of Homeland Security media contact, Amber Schindeldecker at 651-201-7575. She was NOT able to answer ANY of our questions and referred us to Bruce Gordon the Communications Director of MN Homeland and DPS at 651-201-7171. Of course as Director of Communications his phone has 100% gone directly to voicemail today. Does THAT surprise you? So tomorrow it looks like Joseph Kelly, who is the director of MN Homeland Sec (and is OUT OF THE OFFICE TODAY) will be contacted. Perhaps YOU can give him a call for his statement on all this as well, would you?
